PODCASTS FOR CHILDREN

KIDS PODCASTS

Podcasts expand a child’s knowledge in content areas and help increase their vocabulary. Though dyslexic students may struggle with reading, they still have a strong desire to learn. Studies indicate that listening to audiobooks and podcasts will activate the same neurological response as reading text. Below are some of my children’s personal favourite podcasts

"A History Podcast for Kids! Parents love us, Teachers love us, and most importantly, kids do too!
History can be amazing, inspiring and relevant to anyone. We love to share the stories of spies, funny foods, George Washington's foibles, early advancements in cartooning and ballooning and much more! A professional music score and important songs accompany nearly every themed episode."

"Brains On!® is a science podcast for curious kids and adults from American Public Media. Each week, a different kid co-host joins Molly Bloom to find answers to fascinating questions about the world sent in by listeners. Like, do dogs know they’re dogs? Or, why do feet stink? Plus, we have mystery sounds for you to guess, songs for you to dance to, and lots of facts -- all checked by experts."

"'Who, When, Wow!' is an auditory journey into the lives of unsung heroes, unknown heroines and amazing humans who make us say “WOW!” Available every Wednesday or listen ad-free and 1 week early by subscribing to Wondery Plus in the Wondery app. Visit Whowhenwow.com for conversation starters, book lists and activities to keep the wow rolling long after the show!"

Brains On presents Forever Ago®, a history show for the whole family! Every episode looks into the surprising and fascinating history of things we think are ordinary, but they’re not -- like ice cream flavors, video games, baths and more. We make learning about the past fun while teaching listeners to think critically about history.

THE BIG FIB

Each week, a kid interviews two experts in a particular topic, one of whom is a genuine, credentialed expert, the other a liar. Hilarious and fast-paced, the show teaches kids to ask insightful questions, weigh the evidence before them, and trust their gut.

SMASH BOOM BEST

Smash Boom Best is a debate show for kids and families from the makers of the award-winning podcast, Brains On! Every episode takes two cool things, smashes them together and lets you decide which is best. Our debaters use facts and passion to make their case -- teaching listeners how to defend their own opinions along the way.

BUTTONS & FIGS

Buttons & Figs introduces kids to great nonsense literature, poetry, and songs as a way to give them permission to play with words. These great works of art inspire kids to read, write, sing, talk and play with the words.  Buttons & Figs works in collaboration with teachers, librarians and parents to bring wordplay concepts to their kids. In turn, those kids, your kids, share their writings and ideas on our show.
